The History of Mission Day

Mission Day was started in September 1996 by Michelle Norris, Senior VP of Development. Michelle, an avid runner, wanted to combine her goal of running the route of the Columbus marathon with a desire to raise funds to purchase equipment for a new NCR community. NCR central office staff made pledges to the Foundation on her behalf and an event was born. Michelle repeated the run the following year which eventually coined the name “Mission Day.”

For the past five years, all funds raised from Mission Day help provide service coordination programs at NCR communities that are unable to afford the service, or do not qualify for program assistance from the federal government. In addition, funding has also been provided for student social work interns and part-time social workers at NCR communities that do not qualify for the service coordinator HUD grant program, such as our tax credit properties.
